When the respectable guests arrive, instead of the expected romantic and peaceful weekend, a tangle of relationship and social games full of surprises and highly comic situations begins, in which even those involved sometimes find it impossible to work out who is where, with whom, and why. The English writer, composer, actor and singer Noël Coward (1899–1973) entered the history of playwriting with his distinctive style, witty remarks and characters’ refined cynicism—that is, with everything British audiences want to see in the theatre. At Endla, director Ingomar Vihmar takes one of his best-loved and most frequently staged comedies and adds a couple of distinctly Estonian twists to its distinctly English, reserved humour.
