ÜKSIKVISA

On 7 October, the new production ÜKSIKVISA, written by Ott Aardam, directed by Maria Peterson, and performed by Priit Pius and Laura Peterson Aardam, premieres. Üksikvisa is a co-created production by POINT Productions, inspired by real-life events, that seeks answers to the questions: What happens to a person who has built their whole life around a functioning system when that system begins to crumble one day? After his marriage falls apart, Marko raises two sons alone. He is a former soldier, a devoted father and the creator of the popular video blog ÜKSIKVISA, where he shows thousands of followers how to cope with the most difficult situations as a father, together with his children. His world is built on order, responsibility and one firm promise: he will not disappear from his children’s lives. One day, journalist Liz arrives at Marko’s home to write a story about a man who rebuilt his life after divorce. But before meeting Marko, Liz has also spoken to his ex-wife Mirjam — and heard a very different version of the same marriage. The interview quickly becomes more than a newspaper article. Where does caring end and control begin? Does love give us the right to protect another person even when they don’t want that protection? Does a family remain a family after the relationship between the couple has ended? What do women and men need in a relationship? And why can one person’s sense of security be another’s prison?   “ÜKSIKVISA” is a story of relationships, divorce and parenthood, full of sharp humour and psychological tension, in a world where private life has increasingly become a public story. We show others our happiness, principles, children and truths — but what stays behind the frame? How much of what we tell about ourselves is actually true? It is a meeting between two people, each with their own truth and wounds — and each convinced they know how the world works. In this increasingly polarised world, can a man and a woman still truly listen to each other? Can we give freedom to the person we love?
