Consecrated in 1750, this dignified, rust-coloured Lutheran church was named for Russian Empress Yelizaveta Petrovna, who gifted Pärnu’s Lutherans 8000 roubles for its construction. The simple interior has low dangling chandeliers, a Gothic-style carved wooden pulpit and a wonderful altarpiece of the Resurrection from Rotterdam (1854).

This beautiful church in central Pärnu invites visitors to step inside and admire its Neo-Gothic pulpit and altar dating from the mid-19th century, as well as the altarpiece “Resurrection”. St Elizabeth’s Church houses one of Estonia’s finest organs and, to the delight of music lovers, is also one of the city’s much-loved concert venues. Interesting to know! The church was named in honour of Empress Elizabeth of Russia, thanks to whom the Estonian congregation was allowed to have its own Lutheran church.
