More descriptions
Located in central Pärnu, Pärnu Museum is one of the most modern history museums in the Baltic States. Its permanent exhibition unfolds before you, inviting you to explore the story of Pärnu and Pärnu County in the context of the history of the Baltic Sea region and at the heart of Estonia’s historical turning points. The history of Pärnu is presented through four unique stories: “The Source of Our Story”, “The Story of Two Cities”, “The Birth of a Nation State” and “Pärnu, the Summer Capital”. They tell of the beginnings of human settlement and the transition to a settled way of life; a medieval twin city and a Baroque fortified town under Swedish rule; an 18th- and 19th-century trading and industrial town; the development of the Estonian language, mindset, literature and journalism; the birth of our premier seaside resort; and the establishment of the republic. In the themed galleries, new characters—Nuuskur and Raimond the herring—are there to spark children’s curiosity. A new feature is the open storage area, where we introduce the museum’s collections that usually remain unseen by visitors. Experience culture in Pärnu!
