More descriptions

Karuse Church is one of the oldest religious buildings in Läänemaa, built in the 1260s as a fortified church for the Livonian Order. The church was completed in 1267. Inside, see the surviving Baroque pulpit and altar; as you walk through the churchyard, you will see surviving trapezoidal tombstones dating back to the 13th century and ring crosses from the 17th century. Good to know: The church is believed to be the burial place of Livonian Order Master Otto von Lutterberg, who was killed in battle with the Lithuanians on sea ice near Karuse.
