More descriptions
Pikavere village is made special by its stone walls, though no one can say exactly how old they are. The story of how the walls came to be is simple: since the land here is naturally so stony, the ancestors thought it best to stack the stones brought up from the ground into walls. The walls form lanes that all lead somewhere: to a neighbouring village, farmyards or larger roads. They also mark the boundaries of plots and fields. In Pikavere, maintaining the stone walls is a task shared by the whole community. The Pikavere Brethren prayer house, built in 1830 and preserved in its original form, is also worth seeing.
