More peace in relationships: Nonviolent communication skills for everyday life Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is a way of communicating based on the principles of nonviolence and humanistic psychology. Its aim is to develop empathy, understanding, and relationships based on equality, not to avoid disagreements. The method was developed by clinical psychologist Marshall Rosenberg in the 1960s and 1970s, and is based on four core components. The method is based on the idea that needs lie behind people's behavior and words. When we are unaware of these needs, disagreements and conflicts arise. When we become aware of them and express them, working at this level can prevent conflicts and create harmony. Empathy—listening with the heart—is at the center of the method. Applying it shifts the focus in human relationships away from right and wrong, judgments, and accusations toward empathic listening, which creates understanding, harmony, and cooperation. This lets us have a real dialogue instead of telling others what to do and how to do it, or merely attacking and defending ourselves. To do this, we need to connect with our own feelings and needs. We will practice this in the workshop. _____________________________ Participant feedback: "I think this is one of the most important skills we need both at home and at work." - Toomas "Cathy created a warm and friendly atmosphere that made me feel good.
